Soul clássico, soul em estado puro, cantado com luz, com uma letra bastante positiva que celebrava a importância, a valorização e a gratidão das pequenas coisas.
Seis anos depois, 1980, William de Vaughn revisitava o mesmo tema e dava-lhe roupagens mais vistosas, mais coloridas. Ele adaptava a canção ao que género que dominava as pistas de dança: o disco sound. Muitos preferem esta segunda versão.
Mas para quem, como eu, soul é soul, ouvir Be Thankful for What You Got nestas roupagens mais exuberantes, foi algo de muito estranho que esteve muito longe de se entranhar.
Nada como o original, da forma como foi pensada, da forma como nasceu.
De Vaughn, agora com 71 anos, não se vai chatear comigo, garantidamente. Até porque iria ter muito trabalho em fazer o mesmo a tantos e tantos outros.
